When Should My Child’s First Dental Visit Be?
Current guidelines from the Australian Dental Association recommend a child’s first dental visit around their first birthday or when their first tooth emerges — whichever comes first.
Early visits are short, gentle, and designed to make the clinic feel like a safe place rather than a scary one.
Tell. Show. Do.
We use a technique called ‘tell-show-do’ for younger patients — explaining what we’re about to do in simple language, showing the instruments before they’re used, and proceeding gently at the child’s own pace.
Anxious kids are common in dental settings. We’re experienced with them, and we’re patient.
Medicare Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS)
Eligible children aged 2–17 can access up to $1,158 in covered dental services over a two-year period under the CDBS. This includes check-ups, cleans, X-rays, fissure sealants and fillings.
Our team will check your child’s eligibility before the appointment so there are no surprises on the day.
