A dental filling repairs a tooth damaged by decay or minor fracture. Composite resin (tooth-coloured) fillings are matched to your natural shade and bonded directly to the tooth structure.

What Does Getting a Filling Involve?
Your dentist removes the decayed portion of the tooth, cleans the area, and places the composite resin in layers — each cured with a blue wavelength light. The whole process takes around 30–60 minutes for a single tooth. Local anaesthetic is used so you stay comfortable throughout.

Does getting a filling hurt?
Not with local anaesthetic in place. You’ll feel pressure and movement, but not pain. If you feel anything sharp, raise your hand — your dentist will stop immediately.
How long does a filling last?
Composite fillings typically last 7–10 years with good oral hygiene and regular check-ups. Larger fillings or those in high-pressure areas (back molars) may need replacing sooner.
Can I eat after a filling?
Wait until the anaesthetic wears off before eating — usually an hour or two. Avoid hard or chewy foods on that side for the rest of the day.
Will my filling be noticeable?
No. Composite fillings are colour-matched to your tooth and indistinguishable under normal light. They sit flush with the tooth surface once polished

Do you fill children's baby teeth?
Yes, where it’s clinically indicated. Untreated decay in baby teeth can affect the developing adult teeth underneath. We’ll always explain what’s needed and why before proceeding.
